  1. 2 Real Friend

From the recording Believing Mirrors

Real Friend A slick, mid-tempo rocker with a harmonic motif borrowed from the “Arabian Dance’ section of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker. The song itself is about true friendship, not the fair-weather-kind, but the somehow-fate-always-brings-us-together kind. Perhaps the most authentic relationships we encounter are the ones that just seem to slam two people together not because of themselves – but in spite of themselves.

Lyrics

Like a Real Friend

Before the spell of you and I
I had all the fun that money could buy
But I never found a safe place to cry
Like a real friend

Out in the cold, only half of myself
Nobody wanted the lonely I felt
Then you came to me as my other self
Like a real friend, just like a real friend

Like a real friend you’re there for me
Just like a real friend ooh you bear my troubles for me
Like a real friend, just like a real friend, like a real friend
You’re the other one of Us, Aquarius

We play together on the merry-go-round
And find each other in the lost-and-found
And wander away, ending up on common ground
…Real friends

A change of heart brings a change of mind
But ours beat forever in synchronized time
Birds of a rare feather flying blind
Just like real friends…just like real good friends

Like a real friend you’re there for me
Just like a real friend ooh you bear my troubles for me
Like a real friend, just like a real friend, like a real friend
You’re the other half of Us, Aquarius

Ooh, you cover for me…

Like a real friend you cover me
Just like a real friend ooh you bear this troubled water for me
Like a real friend, just like a real friend, and like a real friend
…you know I’ll cover for you
