My father died in 1963, just two days before JFK’s assassination. In fact, we’d just come back from Dad’s funeral when we got the news from Dallas. It occurred to me I’d never written any music which formally observed my father’s passing, so this short Requiem which I’d composed as an orchestral piece served as that tribute.
