With its cartoonlike assortment of fun sound effects, 'Space Airplanes' hits me as a kind of 'Buck Rogers' version of a more serious musical depiction of interplanetary space travel. As our humble, day-glo-painted ‘Space Airplane’ hurls us past the small-talk of local, interplanetary traffic towards the outer reaches (and other such scary unknowns) of our experience, we start to wonder 3 things: 'can't this thing slow down a little?', 'where are we?', and 'will we ever make it home?'. Think '2001' for the comic-book set.
